| Rhinoplasty
is the technical term used for an operation that
alters the size and shape of the nose. Unlike
most cosmetic procedures, Septorhinoplasty is
dynamic, multidimensional and can define or alter
facial personality. The nose is the focal point
of the face and thus can influence our entire
perception (and of course the self-perception)
of a patient. The misconception that rhinoplasty
simply “corrects” a deformity should
be replaced by the intent to make the nose an
“asset” to facial features. The truth
is that the object of the procedure is to make
you "prettier" rather than to correct
one or two deformities.
Careful assessment as to facial balance, ethnic
origin, patient’s personality, vocation,
aspirations and expectant change in self image
provide rhinoplasty and its adjunctive procedures
(chin, lip and cheek surgery) with a unique opportunity
to alter or upgrade a patient’s entire facial
(and perhaps psycho-social) aura. This tends to
be an operation of young people, toward which
the only criterion of success is a happy patient.
A technical success exists only in the mind of
the surgeon.
